Historically: History: Suwon was called Maehall (Øâûì) during the Koguryo and the Three Nation Period (from the end of the 5th century to Unified Shilla Dynasty) and renamed Suseong-Gun (â©àòÏÛ) in King Gyeongduk (year 757) reign during the Unified Shilla period. It was renamed Suju (â©ñ¶) in the Goryeo period. Suwon City is a historic city of filial piety and has walls constructed based on practical science of 22nd Great King Jongjo of the Joseon Dynasty. It is the gateway to the southern part of Seoul.
Culture: Suwon is home to Whasung, the castle walls of which have been designated an International Cultural Asset, and a city of harmonized traditional culture and modern civilization with many tourist attractions. It is also home of the famous Suwon beef ribs. The population of Suwon has surpassed one million people, making it the first self-governing region to have done so.

Whasung cultural Festival(during October/around suwon City)
The festival was established to promote mutual friendship and reconciliation of people and promote social morals and customs and contribute to local development. It is held every year around October 10th, for 6 to 7 days to celebrate Citizens' Day with a variety of activities.
