History: The name Gwacheon (Íýô¹) was in existence as early as the Joseon Dynasty, and has been used for over 600 years. This name was based on the previous name, Gwaju (Íýñ¶), which was believed to be followed by the name Yuljin (ëÑòÐ).
Geography: Gwacheon City is located in the mid-western part of Gyeonggi Province. Yangjae Stream is composed mainly of alluvial deposits.
Culture: Cultural remains related to King Jeongjo, such as Onon Temple and Yeonju-dae, are located here and the area is considered one of the most comfortable places in the country to live. |

Gwacheon Open-air Theater Festival(During September)
Gwacheon Open-air Theater Festival originated in 1997 as Gwacheon International Open-air Theater Festival, a part of the ITI General Assembly and International Court Theater Festival. Following the success of the festival over the following two years, it was renamed in 2000. Among the many events held at the festival are open-air theater competitions for children and youths.
