History: Kwangju is located in the middle of Gyeonggi Province and used the Chinese character Kwang (ÎÆ) in its name.
Geography: The city is located in the middle of Gyeonggi Province and stretches 27.88km from east to west and 30.26km from north to south, with a total area of 431.89km2. It borders Yeoju and Icheon in the east, Seongnam in the West, Yeongin city in the south, and faces Namyangju, Yangpyong County and Hanam City across the Han River. Gwangju city is located in the middle of the Seoul-Busan national highway, which runs north to south and affords easy access to transportation. It is located in the Han River basin and Kyungan Stream basin, which runs from east to west and contains mountains and valleys.
Culture: The plains of the Han River basin provide excellent rice farming and because it is close to Seoul, many electronics, porcelain, and beverage manufacturing companies are located here. Also, cultural remains such as Namhan mountain fortified castle and Joseon Dynasty white porcelain and pottery furnace sites are located here. It also hosted the ¡°2001 Gyeonggi Province International Ceramics Expo.¡± |

Namhan Mountain Fortified Cultural Festival(during October)
The main purpose of this event is to inspire local pride in having Namhan Mountain Fortress¡¯s Seungyul Shrine, where a memorial tablet to King Onjoe, founder of Baekjae Nation, attests to the region being the first capital city of Baekjae, and to remember King Onjoe¡¯s spirit.

Carp Festival(During May)
