Geography: Yeoncheon is situated in the most northern part of Gyeonggi-do and bordering the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). Because the region is located inland, the weather is characterized by a continental climate. The Imjingang(River) flows southerly between a basin that forms a wide valley and flows easterly to merge with the Hantangang(River) in the central lowland. The central lowland is the Yeoncheon plain of the Imjingang(River) basin, formed by erosion. The Gweonwon railway and national road pass through the middle of the area, and it and produces rice, dry farming, fruits and specialty products.
Culture: Fierce fighting took place here during the Korean War. It is a cultural city with prehistoric remains at Maesosung, Jeonkokri and the tomb of King Kyungsoo of the Shilla Dynasty.

Jeonkokri Old Stone Age Festival is held every year at Jeonkokri prehistoric remain site. A variety of events are provided for a better understanding of prehistoric culture by experiencing a primitive way of life and production of stoneware.
