History: At the outbreak of Imjinwhaeran, monk-volunteers and troops were defeated by Japanese forces and retreated to this region to reorganize. Villagers provided food to the starved troops and raised their moral. The troops and monk-volunteers formed an alliance and a great victory was achieved by defeating the Japanese forces. Since then, this region has been called Gunpo (ÏÚøé), which literally means the place where troops were fully fed. It is now called Gunpo (ÏÚøÝ) Geography: Surisan(Mountain) is located in the west and Anyangchun(Stream) flows to the east. The metropolitan railway passes through the old city and Sanbon New City and roads to Seoul provide convenient transportation.Culture: The Joseon white porcelain factory site is in Sanbon-dong. Gunpo Industrial Complex, a light-industry complex for the metropolitan area, plays an important part in the development of regional industry.
