History: The name ¡°Pochun¡± was first used in the 13th year of King Taejo (1413) in theJoseon period. Originally, Pochun belonged to the territory of Bakjae and Goguryeo and was called Mahalgun (Ø©ûìÏÛ ìéÙ£ Ù¤ò©ÏÛ) when it was under Goguryeo. It was called Gyunsung-Gun (̱àòÏÛ) by King Jinheung of the Shilla Dynasty and renamed Chunsung (ôìàò) in King Kyungduk¡¯s reign. It was then changed to Poju (øÙñ¶) in the early Goryeo and again changed to what is currently called Pochun (øÙô¹).
Geography: Pochun has clean water and beautiful mountains, with the Gwangju mountain range stretching from northeast to southwest, and convenient access to the metropolitan area with the recent expansion of no. 43 national road.
Culture: The region is known for poultry, livestock, ginseng, pine nuts, Pochun rice wine and Ilong beef. The cultural and tourist spots include Banwol sacred ground, Gwangreung tree garden, a mountaintop lake and the Bakwoon valley. |
