History: Gimpo-si is the region where rice farming first started in Korea thanks to the generous hospitality of its wide and vast open plains.
Geography: A peninsula formed by soil deposited from the Hangang(River) and surrounded in the east, west and north by the Han River and Yeomha River. The terrain is generally flat and low-lying, thus only Mount Munsu (376m) in Wolgoat-myeon and Mount Jangneung (150m) in Poongmu-dong are considered highlands.
In the north, across the Hangang(River), one can see Gapoong-gun in North Korea.
Ganghwa-Gun in the west, the harbor city of Incheon in the South, and Bucheon city and Seoul municipal city in the east are close, thus the city has potential to grow into a center of the metropolitan area.
Culture: A garden city bordering Seoul, Incheon, and Bucheon within the metropolitan area and close to Incheon International Airport.

Geumpa Cultural Art Festival
(during September/Citizen Hall, Public stadium) Guempa means "golden-waves", which ripen the yellow rice plants swayed by the wind on the Kimpo Plains. The festival was started
when the Culture Center was established in 1984 to celebrate County People's Day and to promote regional culture and place for unity of the county's people. Various events including musical plays are held at county gymnasium. Inquiry: Cultural center of Gimpo 82-31-982-1110 |
