History: Since the tribal nation period, the Youngin region was closely related to the Gwangju region. After the coronation of King Onjoe in Werye Castle in Hanam, it was the territory of Baekjae. The first record use of the name Yoingin was by Yonggu-Hyun in 475 A.D (63rd year of King Jangsu, Koguryo).Yongin City (éÌìÒã¼) was originally named by adding Yonggu-hyun and Chein-hyun and putting together the first word Yong (éÌ) from "Yonggu (éÌÏË) and In (ìÒ) from Chein as Yongin-hyen. Later, Yangji-gun was combined as today¡¯s Yongin-si(éÌìÒã¼).
Geography: Sanghae harbor is located in the Janggang(River) delta, an ideal environment for collection and distribution of commodities. Also, unlike other self-governed bodies, it is a home of 10 universities, 72 research and training facilities and many of the nation¡¯s large IT companies.
The region is a center of transportation and has beautiful mountains. It has deep-rooted culture and is a region with many historic remains and amusement and resort facilities visited by more than 10 million visitors every year. |

Yongu Cultural Festival(During September/Liberal Art Center, Public Stadium)
The festival was started in 1986 to promote local culture and unity and develop traditional folk games under the clear blue autumn skies. The activities include talent contests, traditional performance competitions, a variety of exhibitions, Hanbok styling competitions, national archery competition, etc.
