Alien Registration | |
|
| A foreigner for whom one of the following is applicable should apply for registration as a resident foreigner. |
| - |
One who wishes to stay in Korea for 91 (ninety-one) days or longer. |
| - |
One who wishes to stay in Korea for 90 (ninety) days or longer from the date of being granted a permit to stay in Korea after acquiring foreign citizenship and losing Korean citizenship or being born in Korea. |
| - |
One who wishes to stay in Korea for 91 (ninety-one) days or longer after being granted a change in the status of their sojourn. |
However, a foreigner for whom one of the following is applicable is exempted from the obligation of registering as a resident foreigner.

Members of a foreign government¡¯s diplomatic delegation or a consular attache or one who is granted an equal level of privilege to the foregoing one under a treaty or internationally accepted practice and his or her family members: (A-1) |
|
One engaged in official business of a foreign country or an international organization approved by the Korean government and his or her family members: (A-2) |
|
One whose registration as a resident foreigner is exempted under a treaty with the Korean government and his or her family members: (A-3) |
|
One engaged in an important foreign or industrial or defense matter and his or her family members or one for whom the Ministry of Justice specially grants exemption to registering as a resident foreigner. |

A Canadian wishing to be engaged in one of the following activities for a duration of 6 (six) months or shorter:
- Transit tourist (B-2), culture and arts (D-1), religion (D-6), family visit (F-1), spousal visit (F-3), other (G-1) | |
| Timing of Registration |
|
A resident foreigner must apply for registration as follows:
- Within 90 (ninety) days from the date of entry (for one wishing to stay for 90 days or longer)
- Immediately (for one who has been granted the right to stay or granted a change in their status of sojourn)
A resident foreigner who fails to apply for registration as stated in the foregoing shall be subject to punishment. |

Place of Application | |
|
Applications for foreign resident registration shall be made by the applicant at the Immigration Office having jurisdiction over his/her address.
Please note that foreign resident registration is not carried out at the immigration office at Incheon International Airport, Gimhae International Airport, facilities for the protection of foreigners, offices at the city air terminal, or offices in Osan or Pyeongtaek. |

| At the time of application, a receipt is issued. The resident foreigner registration certificate is issued 3-4 days later. The stamp ¡°Registered as a Foreign Resident¡± is put in the space next to the visa in the applicant¡¯s passport. |
