Forest Museum
Description
The arboretum has over 2,844 different species of trees, shrubs and herbs. It is also the natural habitat of rare redheaded woodpeckers, as well as the giant flying squirrel, long-horned beetle and over 20-odd government-designated natural beauties yet to be explored. Gwangneung Mound is the burial grounds of King Sejo and his queen, Jeong Hui. Along the path up to the mound are natural woods that are beautiful throughout the seasons. Tourists can set their eyes on tender spring greens in May, crimson foliage in autumn, and a spectacular snowscape in winter. As if this natural beauty weren't enough, the 4,958,678a site has a spread of other attractions. There's the museum displaying more than 28,000 articles, the artificial woods composed of some 2,844 plant species and 15 specialized arboretums, an 8 km-long forest rest area for refreshing the body and mind, and a wildlife zoo that is home to 15 rare species such as the Mt.Baekdusan tiger.
Entrance by reservation only: The National Arboretum is closed to the public on weekends, holidays and national holidays. Reservations must be made 5 days in advance, for groups or individuals. No more than 5,000 visitors are allowed each day on a first-come, first-served basis.
